"Toiveeni on rakentaa foorumit ja käytännöt, missä ihmiset voivat kokoontua ja huomata, että olemme tärkeitä ja inspiroimme toisiamme. Aion saavuttaa tämän minun taidetyön ja opetuksen kautta."
"My aim is to build platforms and practices where people can come together and create awareness that we are important and an inspiration for each other. I will achieve this through my art work and teaching."

Originally from Taiwan and the USA, I have been based in Finland since 2011.
I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Savannah, Georgia, USA in May 2002. After school, my focus in film and painting led me to the Czech Republic where I worked on film productions and art. Also, while in Prague I started writing for and collaborating with Umelec, a Czech art magazine. A new chapter in New York City found myself creating interactive products at the children’s toy company Scribble Mats and working as research assistant for Hannah Pakula while she was finishing her book The Last Empress: Madame Chiang Kai-shek and the Birth of Modern China.

My immersion in various places and now Finland have given me insight to different cultures and languages, but what I have gained most is an appreciation of the art of non-verbal communication- something I can build and use in my art, teaching and business. In June 2011, I received a Masters degree in Semiotics at Tartu University in Estonia. Whilst a student I attended one semester at Aalto University School of Art and Design (TaiK) in the New Media and Game Design and Production department.
I combine my teaching, art, and semiotics background to create innovative public installations, useful products for people, and to discover new playful ways of communicating. Living in Northern Europe where my senses are constantly making meaning from an orchestra of foreign sounds and contextualizing new signs is a continuation of my dream to travel, discover and build for people. |
Arlene Tucker on taiteilija, moninaisuusagentti ja kasvattaja. Hänen kiinnostuksenaan on lisätä taiteensa kautta leikkisiä elementtejä jokapäiväiseen elämään. Semiotiikan opinnot, eläimet ja luonto inspiroivat häntä luomaan merkityksellisiä hetkiä jaetussa ympäristössämme. Hänen taideteoksensa luovat usein tiloja avoimelle keskustelulle ja yhdessäololle jättäen erilaisille tulkinnoille ja yllätyksille tilaa. Hänen tekstinsä “Translation is Dialogue: Language in Transit” on ollut osana julkaisua “Translating across Sensory and Linguistic Borders: Intersemiotic Journeys between Media (toimittanut: Campbell, Madeleine, Vidal, Ricarda, 2019)”. Tucker on perustanut projektin Translation is Dialogue (2010) ja on vuodesta 2017 asti tehnyt yhteistyötä Prison Outside -projektin kanssa.
