The week-long stay at Arlene and Ilo's home during the Happy Home Stay residency has positively contributed to both my personal and professional life. The focus of my residency was about rest. How can intentionally resting support my artistic well-being? The peaceful lakeside cabin provided the space for me to practice rest. I feel I am still integrating the experience and allowing it to seep into both my professional life as a dancer and my personal life. I feel that intentional resting has recharged me and given me time to further align my dance practices and daily living practices with my values. The open format of the residency and Arlene's facilitation allowed me to reflect on what I most needed and craft the residency to support those needs.

Happy Home Stay is an open-ended way for you to spend time in the countryside, in nature. We are located in Central Finland in a town called Joutsa. Ilo, a friendly jack russell terrier, and I are very happy to share our home with you and our way of living intentionally. If you are into gardening, foraging, ecological living, biking, hiking, swimming in the lake, composting, working, writing, and making art in a peaceful setting, this home and environment is for you. As I am an artist, educator and diversity practitioner, I am also very happy to offer guidance in these areas. Creating a place to exchange perspectives and dialogue is the heart of why I would like to open my doors to you.
Co-creating and working with the local community is extremely important to me. I am happy to arrange artist talks for you, performances, exhibitions in local spaces such as the library and even a residency at the local school as I did for Fair Sculpture project in collaboration with University of the Arts Helsinki. Ilo, ystävällinen jack russell terrier, ja minä olemme erittäin iloisia voidessamme jakaa kanssanne kotimme ja tietoisen tapamme elää. Happy Home Stay helped me center myself, gain clarity, and reconnect with nature. I left feeling refreshed, with a clear career path, a newfound awareness of water conservation, and an unexpected love for foraged mushrooms! During my stay, Arlene gave me the opportunity to present my work on the history of democracy/anti-democracy in Joutsa local library. This proved to be an enriching experience as I could talk about ideas I am familiar with but do so in a different setting compared to the academic one where I usually pursue my research. I found the audience's questions and comments highly stimulating. They helped me rethink some of my research assumptions, whilst also challenging me to confront novel ideas and points concerning the topical issue of democracy.
